The official capital of Côte d’Ivoire is Yamoussoukro, designated in 1983, but the economic and largest city is Abidjan. Yamoussoukro, known as the “Yakro,” was the hometown of the country’s first president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny, who spearheaded its transformation into the modern capital.
