Abuja is the capital of Nigeria and the political center of the country, located in the centrally located Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which was created in 1976. It officially replaced Lagos as the capital in 1991 and was designed as a planned city with modern infrastructure, wide roads, and green spaces, unlike many other Nigerian cities. Abuja serves as the administrative and political hub, hosting key government institutions, and also serves as a conference center and a UNESCO learning city.Â
